whoa

sometimes i feel i have the blueprints in my mind to do anything i dream of, i just don't take the simple, obvious, logical stepts to make it happen.

for instance, i have always struggled with BRUSH PENS. and inking in general (i mean, i'm aite). i want to be a finer inker. specifically, i wanna have more freedom inking. not limited to micron sizes (ugh).

but i don't really LIKE or GET using a nib or a brush, or anything i have to DIP. i am too hyper for that shit.

and brush pens totally crap out within 5 uses. the tip gets all crappy. and in general i think i like a more firm brush. something that will give me some resistance. so a shorter, more tuff brush is necessary.

well, tonight i was like FUCK IT IM GONNA CUT THIS BRUSH PEN'S BRUSH A BIT SHORTER AND INTO A SHARPER ANGLE and it-- it worked. like, up til this point i believed i just simply couldn't do that, coz things don't work that way? but this thing inks like new and has great resistance, good flow, im pulling off all the fancy shit i wanna pull of.

it's like, duh? just cut the brush.

i feel like there are many things in my life (AND INDEED, IN ALL OUR LIVES) we can just "cut the brush" on.

-- EDIT ONE HOUR LATEr

just drewd this

this aint exactly the pinnacle to my new found CRUSH BUTTED, I MEAN, CUT BRUSHED STYLE. it's like... a fuckin doodle. that i colored!!!

And yes, I love Michael Deforge :P

Dude, you've been using the wrong brush pens! The Micron brushpens, Copic brush pens and Pitt Artist's brush pens all have shitty felt tip points which aren't real brushes at all. The only true BRUSH pen points I know are those of the Pentel Pocketbrush (also known as the Pentel GFKP). It has a true brushpoint with individual nylon bristles. I've had mine for at least five years and the point is still like it was at the start!

Oh man, the Pitt ones are terrible.

Have you tried out something like the pentel pocket brush? It seems like it might be an ideal solution...t's pretty much got all the powers of a brush but with the no-dip ease of a brush pen.

I was just about to suggest the pentel pocket brush. I vouch for it as well. Works as well as any brush I have seen so far.

It's called the Kuretake and it's awwweesssoommmeeee. I really love mine. It's kind of pricey but mine's lasted for over a year so it's been sweet. I got the ink converter as well so that I wouldn't have to buy cartridges and I could use whatever ink I wanted.

Yeah! Kuretake! I like them better than pentel, they are a little shorter and stiffer, easier to control. And even if you do have to buy cartridges they are super cheap!

Try http://jetpens.com/

Also, don't forget to wash your Pentel Brush Pen and take good care of it

Dude bro dude, you don't need any of those pens. I used to buy those fancy imports, but that's way too much $ for a pen. Scoot down to hobby lobby or whatever you have, get yourself a small watercolor brush, a bottle of ink, a cup, and have at it.

cush butter

there's something fantastic in using something tweaked from the way the manufacter intended. turking shits.

and more Aves in the future please.

Man that's awesome, i love me some Aves. Aves is my fave.

I used to think that about nibs too, too much effort to dip and whatnot but once you get into it with your little bottle of ink to your side and the fact that it's pretty quick, you get used to it. Cheap too.

I agree with the above speakers: dip pens rule. Nothing make me feel in the zone more than working with dip pens. I feel like I'm continuing the age old tradition. I still don't have the hang of inking with real brushes, but you can't have it all, I guess.

Which brushpens did you manhandle into shape? I'd love to see some pics of how you did it, since I have a shitload of brushpens I bought on a whim that I'd like to try the cutting technique on.
